Crazy Days Part 2

Part II

Well although this one is not as deep as the others in the past, I do believe it is still interesting but let me know what you think. So Friday, after sleeping half the day, Kristen and I went out to eat with her family, my family, and friends of mine. It was fun we had Kani house. Then later that night, I went and played basketball with the guys. Now when I say guys, I am talking about the Swooners and friends. This is the group of guys that I graduated high school with.

Any way after playing until like 3 in the morning and talking til 4, i went home and slept some more. Here is where it gets good. After driving back to Habersham and eating at Wendy’s, we saw 4 cops in a row go speeding by. So what do we do? Just like every other bored college student with alot of time that night and nothing to do, we followed them. Well turned out that there was an armed robbery at a gas station and they were looking for him.

Now I wish i could say, “We joined in and wound up finding him and captureing him” but I cant. Although we did help look, in our 2007 black Honda Accord (it’s sneaky), we never found him and neither did they. So after that, I went to bed.

Later that night when I laid my head down to rest, I thought about the whole robbery thing and it made me think about us as Christians. Stop and take a second and think about the whole thing over but instead of having a store clerk being robbed at gun point, have God being robbed at cross point.

How many times do we, the church, rob god of whats his. Glory, money, praise, worship, time, love, and everything else. Here is the difference though, we don’t go to jail for 10 to 20 years. We are FORGIVEN!!! So my question to you is, are you robbing god right now and what are you going to do to stop it?

Lift High

“Let the walls have their say. Let the walls have their say. Have their say.” my alarm goes off on my cell phone telling me it is time to wake up for church. Now at this time of the morning, 7:20, I am not in the best of moods but I’m not a terrible morning person.

After getting dressed I get in the car, pick K up, and go to work. Once I got there and got started, we started practicing for service. We sang a song off of Steve Fee’s album, We Shine.

we_shineThe song that we did was called, Lift High, and as we went into the bridge, the lyrics hit home big time. They are as follows,

“Lift up your heads
Oh oh lift up your heads
Look on Him”

What hit home is that we need to “Look on him”. We need to be focusing on Jesus and the Cross. Now I know that it sounds like just another “Christian” saying we have lost the meaning of the cross, but I really feel like we have. When and where did we loose the emphasis of the cross because it was on the cross that Christ paid the price for our sins. It was on the cross that man had a chance. It was on the cross my saviour hung. My question to you today is, are you focused on the cross? Are you stepping out to share the cross with people?

Feeding the 60…

I know what your thinking, he wrote 60 instead of 5,000. Wrong! Today was a very interesting day that let me to think of the feeding of the 5,000.

We did a lunch fundraiser selling chicken tenders, beaked beans, cole slaw, etc and had presold 60. Well even though that is not alot, it was on the youth to sell them to help raise money for their trip. So we bought all the stuff for it and prepared and all that jazz, and then no one showed up. We had a total of 45 plates picked up. Although that is not alot off of 60, it is still a high percentage.

So being that Life Church’s vision is to, “Show God’s Love in a Practical Way”, we decided to take our food and try and give it away to people at a local grocery store. Well I was standing there by myself with this box of food and drinks, trying to hand them out to people saying, “May I please bless you with a free lunch?” Reactions varied from, “No No No No No No No!” to “I don’t want your free food!”

Now hear me out, you would think that it was all bad. And even though we had to stand there for an hour and a half to give away 10 lunches, we finally had some people say yes and when they did, we were able to tell them the truth. “That God Loves You”.

Now that I sit back on 4 hours sleep, I cannot help but think about how I paniced about feeding 60 while Jesus feed 5,000 (not including the women and children). So my question to you is, are you showing God’s love in a practical way and are you accepting of God’s love when shown in a practical way?

Jesus – A Public Speaker?

I just gave a speech in my Public Speaking class on Weblogs and Twitter. Although it went well, it did not go so well at the same time.
Only going 7 min on a 10 min speech, not a good thing. Oh well! This experience makes me wonder about Jesus and his “sermons”. Did he write them down? Did he think about it in advance? Or did he know the people well enough and was close enough to his father that he just flowed with the spirit? Did he just let God work through him?
Don’t get me wrong, I prepare for days and really seek what I’m supposed to talk about, but giving that speech just made me wonder, how good was Jesus at public speaking?
